Train X9590, carrying 90 containers that include tapioca starch from Thailand, shortening oil from Indonesia, and polyethylene from the United Arab Emirates, left Qinzhou Port East Station heading towards Chongqing Tuanjiecun Station at 5:21 am on Sept 30.
According to China Railway Nanning Group, the rail-sea intermodal trains on the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor transported 1.09 million TEUs of containerized goods in the first three quarters, reflecting a 70.3 percent increase compared to the previous year.
It broke the one million TEU mark on Sept 4, hitting an annual shipment volume of over one million TEUs for the first time.
Zhao Jian, Deputy Station Master of Qinzhou Port East Station under the Coastal Railway Company of China Railway Nanning Group, said this year has experienced the fastest shipment growth since trains began operating – it took only 247 days to surpass one million TEUs, compared to over four years for the first million.
He added this year's shipment is expected to top 1.3 million TEUs, with total cargo volume surpassing five million TEUs.
Over more than eight years, 26 fixed routes have been established, serving major cities in the west. By August 2025, the corridor featured 1,316 cargo categories, with 163 stations located in 75 domestic cities across 18 provinces, and 577 ports in 127 countries and regions.
