19th UN Tourism/PATA forum kicks off in Guilin

The 19th UN Tourism/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook opened in Guilin on Sept 19.

Co-hosted by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the world, including government officials, academic scholars, and tourism elites worldwide along the Lijiang River.

Attendees concentrated on the theme "Synergy in Motion: Charting a New Frontier for a Resilient, Sustainable and Smart Tourism Ecosystem", exploring topics such as innovative governance for tourism's future, cross-border cooperation, technology-driven innovations, and sustainable, smart tourism development. They also exchanged insights on the latest trends and future prospects of Asia-Pacific tourism.

A representative from Guangxi said the forum built a solid bridge for Guangxi to connect with the world and exchange ideas.

Guangxi, serving as a frontier for China-ASEAN cooperation, is dedicated to pioneering a new chapter in high-quality tourism development through a collaborative and ecological approach. The region seeks to harness a diverse range of ideas and expertise to elevate its tourism industry, transforming forums and discussions into an influential international platform.

An official from UN Tourism said the forum's theme reflected responsibilities and ambitions, noting the Asia-Pacific had become a driver for global tourism innovation.

They added that the platform would focus on trends and provide solutions to enhance tourist experiences.

A PATA representative said the forum was timely for building resilient, sustainable and smart tourism ecosystems.

They aimed for the event to translate the idea of responsible tourism for future generations into reality, using discussions on sustainable development and smart planning.

Hosted by the Guilin municipal people's government and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It featured a series of keynote speeches delivered by industry leaders, who shared valuable insights into European source markets in the Asia-Pacific and sustainable tourism.
