Guilin was named China's "City of Charm" at the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), announced by the secretariat on Aug 30. The city will highlight its scenic landscapes and dynamic energy, strengthening connections with ASEAN countries.

Launched in 2005, the "City of Charm" program connects cities across China and ASEAN, promoting cooperation in trade, tourism, and other areas. More than 180 cities have participated, leading to nearly 1,000 collaborations by the 21st expo.

Guilin, striving to become a world-class tourist destination, has enhanced its eco-friendly tourism initiatives. This includes new-energy cruise ships on the Lijiang River and electric rafts on the Yulong River, which help reduce emissions. Its combination of "landscape plus culture", such as tours of Longji Terrace, attracts 30 million visitors each year, with an increasing proportion coming from ASEAN countries.

At CAEXPO, Guilin will display its scenery, intangible heritage, and industries through exhibits and interactive activities. The event will also include a tourism promotion segment, featuring ASEAN-exclusive offers and exploring cooperation opportunities.

A city official said Guilin will strengthen its connections with ASEAN in areas such as tourism, agricultural trade, and culture, positioning its scenic landscapes as a link between China and ASEAN.
