The 2025 ASEAN-Oriented Standardization Cooperation Forum opened in Nanning, Guangxi on Aug 27, with the theme "Innovative Collaboration in AI Standardization, Empowering the Building of China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future".
As a key platform for China-ASEAN standardization exchanges – built through multiple sessions of the forum – China reaffirmed its focus on international standardization cooperation, pledging to deepen standard system collaboration with ASEAN to boost trade and investment liberalization.

Guangxi is advancing institutional opening-up in standards, deepening ASEAN cooperation, and jointly exploring new AI standardization paths. Efforts will focus on developing AI-related infrastructure – such as standards, metrology, and certification – while working to establish a mutual recognition system for AI standards with ASEAN.
The forum launched cooperation bodies and projects, such as the Expert Committee of the ASEAN National Standardization Cooperation and Exchange Center and China-Cambodia AI Standardization Working Group.
It also released outcomes including an initiative on standards for sustainable AI development and a talent development plan for China-ASEAN automotive standardization.
