The national event for 2024's World Environment Day was held on Aug 15 in Guilin, aiming to increase awareness of ecological civilization and environmental protection across society.

At the event, 14 cities with districts displayed their achievements in ecological civilization construction and characteristic ecological products. In addition, a low-carbon walking activity was held to advocate for a green and healthy lifestyle. About 300 people attended the event.

In recent years, the quality of Guangxi's natural environment has continued to improve, ranking second in the country on the ecological quality index, achieving full consumption of renewable energy power generation for five consecutive years, and ranking sixth in the country in terms of green power trading volume.

Guangxi has also achieved remarkable results in pollution prevention and control, and has been awarded the national excellent grade for the past two years straight. In 2023, Guangxi ranked first in low-carbon product certification and third in biodiversity richness in the country. In the first half of this year, the proportion of days with good ambient air quality in the region was 98.2 percent, ranking fourth in the country.

Guilin is now accelerating the comprehensive green transformation of its economy and society, and has been awarded titles such as the "China Habitat Environment Award" in 2023.
