Guangxi wrestler advances to finals at Olympics

On Aug 6, the semifinals of the men's Greco-Roman 60-kilogram wrestling event at the Paris Olympics concluded with Guangxi athlete Cao Liguo defeating his opponent from North Korea, securing a spot in the finals.

Cao had previously faced off against Egyptian wrestler Moamen Mohamed in the 1/8 final, advancing successfully. In the quarterfinals, he triumphed over Venezuelan wrestler Rodriguez Orozco with a score of 5-3, securing a spot in the semifinals. 

In the semifinals, Cao competed against a North Korean wrestler. Despite initially falling behind, he fought back valiantly to equalize the score in the final moments. Ultimately, based on the rule that awards victory to the higher scorer, Cao emerged triumphant over the opponent, advancing to the finals.

The finals are scheduled for Aug 7, where Cao will face off against Japanese wrestler Fumita Kenichiro.

Born in Lingyun county, Baise city, he received training at a sports school in Beihai city. Since joining the Chinese wrestling team in 2017, he has consistently performed well in domestic and international competitions, showcasing exceptional talent and skills.
