Hechi leads Guangxi's forestry expansion, village greening

Hechi has been taking the lead in village greening for six consecutive years in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, standing at 48.11 percent and has provided valuable experience for greening initiatives across the region.

In 2023, the city secured fiscal support from the central government for the first land greening project in Guangxi. The forestry department took proactive measures to advance the project, overseeing the planting of 6.54 million trees, nurturing 4.03 million mu (268,667 hectares) of forest, and cultivating 1,200 mu of grasslands.

The city achieved a 5.57 percent year-on-year growth in the total value of forestry output, amounting to 29.76 billion yuan ($4.1 billion). Additionally, the city surpassed its targets for forest-related projects by 12.3 percent, planting 86,500 mu of new camellia forests. The village greening coverage has consistently ranked first in Guangxi for six consecutive years.

Hechi's production of camellia seeds reached 122,600 metric tons, marking a 9.93 percent growth compared to the previous year. Simultaneously, dry walnut production experienced a year-on-year rise of 7.87 percent, totaling 8,200 tons. The under-forest economy, covering forest planting, breeding, collection, and forest tourism based on forest land resources and ecosystems, achieved a total value of 10.02 billion yuan, reflecting a 2.22 percent year-on-year expansion.
