The fifth Guangxi medical team dispatched to Cambodia's Prey Veng Province returned to Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Dec 22 after completing 689 cataract surgeries in Cambodia in 45 days.
The medical team comprised eight ophthalmologists and medical staff from the Liuzhou Red Cross Hospital.
Zhai Jianwei, the team leader and deputy head of Liuzhou Red Cross Hospital, said that Cambodia has a relatively high incidence of cataracts due to the hot weather and intense ultraviolet radiation.
"Conducting charitable surgeries in Prey Veng Province and helping local people regain their sight is my responsibility, and I feel honored to be a part of it," added Zhai.
