China's railway network will extend to Dongxing, a border city with Vietnam in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Wednesday, according to the national railway operator China State Railway Group.
The 47-kilometer railway, with the designed speed of 200 km/h, will link Dongxing with Fangchenggang, and then further connect with other networks to other parts of the country. Once the line opens, it will take 73 minutes from Dongxing to Nanning, capital of the region. Currently, it takes about 3 hours by road.
The line's opening will boost tourism and trade in the border area, enhancing infrastructure construction of the regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, the group said.
