SAIC-GM-Wuling is expected to increase its investment in Indonesia as the Sino-US joint venture revs up efforts to explore the global market.

The announcement came as the Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region-based joint venture inked a memorandum on Saturday with the Indonesian government on developing the new energy vehicle sector in the country.

On the same day, Chinese battery maker Gotion, as an important partner of SAIC-GM-Wuling, delivered its first battery pack produced in Indonesia.

Also on Saturday, the carmaker delivered some Wuling Air evs which will be used at the 42nd ASEAN Summit held in Indonesia from May 9 to 11.

Since the model hit the Indonesian market in August 2022, its deliveries have exceeded 8,600 units, accounting for over 80 percent of the local NEV market.

SAIC-GM-Wuling became a member of Indonesia's NEV association in 2021 and has since been involved in drafting local NEV-related regulations and standards.

The joint venture's plant in Indonesia, the first of its kind overseas, started production in 2017. It has since sold over 100,000 vehicles in the country and built a network of over 140 dealerships.

SAIC-GM-Wuling said it will make Indonesia as a hub for its efforts to explore neighboring markets.
