Guangxi will comprehensively improve the infrastructure capacity and operation efficiency of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, according to the recently released 2023 work report on promoting the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

The year 2023 is the last year of Guanxi's three-year action plan for improving the corridor's construction, where a total investment of 70 billion yuan ($10.3 billion) will go towards major infrastructure construction.

The document also put forward that the container throughput of Beibu Gulf Port is estimated to exceed 8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). In addition, the number of sea-rail intermodal trains operating in the corridor will go over 9,000 and the international aviation cargo throughput of Nanning Wuxu International Airport will reach 100,000 to 120,000 metric tons.

The Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Railway and the Fangchenggang-Dongxing Railway will be put into operation in 2023. The construction of the Huangtong-Baise Railway and the Chongzuo-Pingxiang Railway will also take place this year, along with the renovation of the Liuzhou hub of the Hunan-Guangxi High-speed Railway.

Construction work on the Pinglu Canal will start this year, while the Nanning (Niuwan)-Guigang 3,000-ton shipping route, which is part of the Xijiang shipping trunk line, will optimize its inland waterway shipping network.

Efforts will be also made in accelerating the modernization level of Beibu Gulf Port. The port will be encouraged to begin its pilot tax refund project, which refunds departure land port tax. Liner shipping routes to Hong Kong and Singapore will also return to normal operation in 2023, and more routes to RCEP member countries will be opened.
