The sixth Lipu Taro Cultural Festival took place from Dec 15 to 18 in Lipu, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
The three-day event staged various kinds of activities, such as singing and dancing performances, a Best Taro competition and Best Sugar Orange competition, an exhibition and sales of famous, distinctive and advantageous Lipu products as well as a folk song competition.
Currently, Lipu has a total taro plantation area of more than 50,000 mu (3,333 hectares) and the total output value of the taro plantation and processing industries has reached more than 2 billion yuan ($287 million).
The Lipu taro industry has now become a major way for the city to develop its agricultural industry and increase local farmers' incomes.
