More than 100 mu (6.7 hectares) of canna in the Nakao River Wetland Park of Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, are beginning to bloom with the arrival of autumn.

Canna prefers to grow in warm and moist areas with plentiful sunlight. The most suitable temperature for canna is around 25 C, making spring and autumn the two best seasons to appreciate the beauty of this flower.

A resident surnamed Zheng who lives near the park noted that he loves the environment alongside the Nakao River and takes a walk there after dinner every day to enjoy the fresh air and feel the beauty of nature.

Wei Yanping, Party secretary of Aohua Community, said that the river used to be a foul-smelling ditch and rounds of renovation were carried out to turn it into a beautiful garden, attracting many new residents to the area.

The Nakao River Wetland Park started working to become a "sponge city" in March 2015 and has built many "sponges", such as sunken green lands, rainwater wetlands and grass furrows to realize the natural regulation of rain water. The canna in the park contributed a lot to the river's renovation as it can grow in any type of soil and has strong water tolerance.
