Over 5,000 mu (0.07 hectares) of jasmine flower fields in Shijing Village of Hengzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region have opened for the flower picking season, People's Daily reported on May 9.
"My family owns four mu of jasmine flowers and the amount of flowers picked every day is rising and is normally around five kilograms," said Lei Shuiping, a local farmer.
Lei noted that the price of jasmine flowers is stable and the average price of jasmine flowers per 500 grams is around 10 yuan ($1). Lei said that the jasmine flower plantation has made local farmers' life better.
Shijing village has been selected as a distinctive rural village countrywide with an annual output value of over 100 million yuan.
Cai Wanhong, Party secretary of the village, said that the village has attracted several large leading industrial companies managing jasmine flower plantations to settle down in the village and the village is now in the process of submitting an application to establish a standardized jasmine flower market.
