A week-long promotion event on reading commenced in Guilin on April 23, the 22nd World Reading Day. Yang Yanyan, head of the Guilin publicity department, participated in the event.
Guilin has attached great importance to the construction of a literary society and has devoted more than 100 million yuan ($15 billion) to organizing various kinds of promotional reading activities as well as more than 5,000 lectures, involving over 4 million person-times of audience.
A video featuring World Reading Day, which was jointly made by a China Daily team in Guangxi and staff members from the Xiangshan publicity department of Guilin, stood out in a video showcasing event, receiving 250,000 clicks since being posted online.
