Fangchenggang in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region reported six confirmed COVID-19 cases on Feb 28 and the total number of COVID-19 cases in the city reached 40, officials from the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region announced on March 1.

The city's first three cases were found in the Dibian township in Fangcheng district's Dongzhong town on Feb 23. All cases in the city have now been confirmed as the Omicron variant.

Guangxi held a working meeting on COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, noting that Fangchenggang will clear risks among the public in less than the COVID-19 pandemic incubation period and devote every effort to investigating the virus's origin, ensuring that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases reported every day is less than 10.

As of now, Fangcheng district and Dongxing city in Fangchenggang have been carrying out regional nucleic acid testing.
