Some 420 pupils received live carp as a reward for outstanding academic performance in their recently concluded final exam on Friday in Sanjiang Dong autonomous county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Each fish weighed about 1 kilogram.

Jiangchuan Primary School, which distributed the fish, said it was the sixth consecutive semester that students were motivated by live carp — a symbol of good fortune.

All students at the school live in the Nanzhan community, where all residents had been relocated from poor and remote areas of the county.
