The 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for the High-quality Development of Beibu Gulf Economic Zone has been released, officials announced on Jan 13.
The plan is expected to promote the zone's further integration into the new development paradigm of dual circulation, in which domestic and overseas markets reinforce each other, with the domestic market acting as the mainstay, in order to achieve rapid high-quality development.
It will also serve China's western development, the opening-up and development of Southwest and West-central China, and the Belt and Road Initiative.
Goals have been set for the zone in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). The zone will strive to achieve an annual GDP growth rate that is at least one percentage point higher than Guangxi's average, increase its share of the Guangxi economy to more than 50 percent, and achieve the highest per capita GDP in Guangxi.
It will strive to boost its marine output value by 10 percent per year from 2021-25 and increase its share of Guangxi's manufacturing industry by one to two percentage points. It will also make efforts to create several large, highly-competitive advanced manufacturing clusters.
It will also seek to form an economical, efficient, convenient, green and safe New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor during the period, transform its local business environment into one of the nation's best, and form a regional coordinated innovation system.
In addition, it will seek to significantly boost quality of life and develop more balanced public services in sectors spanning employment, education, medical services, elderly services and social insurance.
