Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has become China's largest artificial board production base with an annual production volume of 51 million cubic meters in 2021, officials from the Department of Forestry of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region announced on Jan 8.

The region has topped China for years in terms of its timber yield which stood at 36 million cubic meters. It has taken the lead to work with China Development Bank and Agricultural Development Bank of China to move forward construction of the national pilot reserve forest base.

As of now, Guangxi has used investment of over 15 billion yuan ($2 billion) to build over 10-million-mu (666,667-hectare) of national reserve forest.

The artificial board industry is the core of Guangxi's wood processing. Its industrial structure has been adjusting rapidly in recent years to phase out outdated practices and produce greener and more environmentally friendly products.

Guangxi has optimized foreign trade passages such as road checkpoints, Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port, inland ports alongside Xijiang River, and the China-Europe freight trains to enhance connections with timber export markets in areas such as the Americas, Africa, Oceania, and Southeast Asia and to expand high-quality timber import channels.
