Construction of the Fangchenggang International Medical Opening-up Pilot Zone has achieved remarkable outcomes, officials from Fangchenggang announced during the 2021 International Medical Innovation and Cooperation Forum on Dec 6.

Three industrial parks featuring medical manufacturing, research and development as well as cooperation will be built in the zone. Road construction in the zone is now underway and a medical innovation center of more than 50,000 square meters has been put into operation.

A host of national industrial service platforms have been established in the zone including the national food safety and nutrition innovation platform and the international public health cooperation support base.

As of now, 47 major projects with a total investment of more than 50 billion yuan ($7.87 billion) have been lured to the zone, covering sectors spanning the breeding of laboratory animals, preclinical medicinal studies and the development of traditional Chinese medicine.

The zone has undertaken a series of major events such as the 2021 International Medical Innovation and Cooperation Forum and the sixth China-ASEAN Summit on Drug Development and Cooperation, which has boosted global medical communication and cooperation.
