The import and export volume of Guangxi's border trade in the first eight months of 2021 expanded by 92.2 percent year on year to 28.96 billion yuan ($4.49 billion), said Yang Chunting, director of the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Oct 11.

The region has continued to rank top among the border provinces and autonomous regions in China in terms of its border trade volume, which accounts for more than 40 percent of China's total.

Guangxi borders Vietnam by both land and sea and the land border stretches 1,020 kilometers. Currently, Guangxi has opened nine border gates and 16 designated areas for border trade.

Among them, the Youyiguan border gate is China's largest land border gate for importing and exporting fruit while the Dongxing border gate has the highest flow of people for entering or exiting the border.

Yang said that the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has set up a special administrative office for border trade to promote the innovative development of border trade.

The region has also been accelerating the development of new foreign trade forms such as cross-border e-commerce and market purchases to expand cooperation in trade and investment with ASEAN.

Yang added that Guangxi will further move forward the integrating of border trade and regional industrial development and rural revitalization to ensure the sound and sustainable development of border trade.
