The first forum on the green development of Beibu Gulf Port was held in Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Aug 26.

Pressing issues related to the pollution prevention, dust control, renovation of mangrove forests and the construction of smart ports were discussed during the forum.

Beibu Gulf Port, consisting of three ports namely Fangchenggang Port, Qinzhou Port and Beihai Port, was listed as an international hub port in China's comprehensive three-dimensional transport plan in February.

Li Yanqiang, chairman of the Beibu Gulf Port Group, said that a host of green development measures to promote the transformation development of Beibu Gulf Port will be released.

The ratio of bulk cargo transported by green measures will exceed 80 percent by 2025 at Beibu Gulf Port and the application ratio of clean energy will reach more than 60 percent by 2025.

Li added that Beibu Gulf Port is now pushing forward 72 special projects on environment protection and renovation with their annual investment reaching 430 million yuan ($66.49 million) this year. Beibu Gulf Port is expected to build one or two demonstration companies on green development in the next three years.

Hu Huaping, deputy director of the Transport Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said that the region will take systematic steps to apply the green development concepts into the planning, construction and operation of the ports.
