Number of sea-rail trains on land-sea trade corridor hits new high
A total of 4,596 sets of sea-rail intermodal freight trains were used on the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in 2020, a substantial increase from the 2019 figure, which stood at 2,243.
Officials from the China Railway Nanning Group Co Ltd said that the number of trains conducted in 2020 exceeded the total number of the past three years put together.
Efforts have been made to promote infrastructure connectivity in order to better serve the construction of the land-sea trade corridor. All major port areas in the Beibu Gulf were fully covered with railway lines by April 2020 and preferential policies were implemented to decrease transportation costs for cargo on the land-sea trade corridor.
Su Tianshi, director of Qinzhou Port East Station, said that the construction of the land-sea trade corridor has been a boost to the vitality of regional development. Qinzhou Port had handled a total of over 280,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) by the end of December 2020.
