Guangxi gains momentum in digital economy development

Guangxi's geospatial information industry has entered a stage of accelerated development, officials announced during the 2020 China Geospatial Information Industry Conference held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Oct 23.

Geospatial information has now been widely applied in various areas in Guangxi spanning territorial space planning, targeted poverty alleviation, ecological construction, transportation, and forestry, with the help of new technologies like the internet, the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as cloud computing.

A total of 14 industrial parks out of the overall 15 on digital economy have started construction, while the first phase of the China-ASEAN industrial park on geographic information and satellite applications has initially finished its construction, attracting nearly 50 companies and scientific research institutes.

The total volume of Guangxi's digital economy amounted to 659.3 billion yuan ($98.59 billion), with a year-on-year growth of 12.68 percent, accounting for 31.5 percent of Guangxi's gross domestic product. In addition, Guangxi has clustered more than 11,000 companies involved in digital economy by the first half of 2020.
