Beibu Gulf Economic Zone will give full play to the leading role of major project investment in its economic and social development to promote the stable development of the economic zone, according to officials at a promotion conference on major project construction on May 15.

Since the beginning of this year, Beibu Gulf Economic Zone has spared great efforts to promote the resumption of production, as well as the restoration of economic and social order following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. In the first quarter, the economic growth rate of the zone was higher than the average level of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the country.

Major port infrastructure was promoted in an orderly manner, including the expansion project of the east channel of Qinzhou Port, the preliminary work of the Longmen Bridge and the Dafengjiang Bridge, the Fangchenggang 300,000 ton wharf and supporting waterway project, as well as the Beihai Tieshan Port railway.

Land-sea connectivity in the western region achieved rapid development, and the container throughput of Beibu Gulf ports increased by 32.6 percent in the first quarter. Other major industrial projects, such as AAC Nanning Industrial Park, Fangchenggang Iron and Steel Base, as well as Yulin Daxin Technology Industrial Park, were accelerated.

In the future, Beibu Gulf Economic Zone will coordinate and continue to maintain COVID-19 prevention and control measures while continuing construction of major projects in the economic zone, as well as take various measures to protect the high-level opening-up and high-quality development of the zone.
