Beibu Gulf ports top China in container throughput growth rate

In the first two months of 2020, Beibu Gulf ports of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region was the only port in China that achieved double-digit growth in cargo throughput and container throughput, with its container throughput growth rate ranking first in the country.

According to data released by the Ministry of Transport, the throughput of Beibu Gulf ports has continued to rise while most ports have decreased. From January to February, the total cargo throughput was 42.87 million tons, an increase of 16.6 percent year-on-year, and the total container throughput reached 580,000 boxes, a year-on-year increase of 34.3 percent.

Beibu Gulf ports' growth in cargo throughput and container throughput is due to a set of initiatives taken by the Beibu Gulf Office of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Beibu Gulf International Port Group, as well as related departments and enterprises in Guangxi. Measures include increasing support for port logistics development, expanding goods supply, developing foreign trade routes, improving business environment, and strengthening foreign cooperation.

Beibu Gulf ports is now showing the impact of being the gateway of the western Land-sea Trade Corridor. As of March 31, a total of 700 trains have dispatched and arrived at the port, an increase of 54 percent year-on-year, with the accumulated containers amounting to 35.177 million TEUs, an increase of 58 percent year-on-year.
