Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region held a symposium in its capital city Nanning to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of standing committees in local people's congresses on Dec 17, reviewing the achievements of local people's congresses in the past 40 years.

Lu Xinshe, Party secretary of Guangxi and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional People's Congress, noted that the fourth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee has put forward new and important requirements on the fundamental political system of upholding and improving the people's congress system. The people's congresses and related departments at all levels in the region should promote the people's congress system and the work of the people's congresses to advance with the times, improve development, as well as make new and greater contributions to building a magnificent Guangxi.

Lu stressed that Guangxi should implement the tasks of institutional innovation and governance capacity building to further strengthen and improve the work of the local people's congress. He added that the region should take the initiative to shoulder the responsibilities laid out by the Constitution and laws,  promoting governance capacity to provide an important guarantee for promoting the modernization of Guangxi's governance.

In addition, Lu also said that Guangxi should focus on strengthening the operation and implementation of the system, complete the mechanism of the people's congress and its standing committee, as well as improve the ability level of the cadres of the people's congress.
