Guests from China and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries gathered at the 2019 Guangxi Pingxiang China-Vietnam Border Tourism Festival and the 27th China-Vietnam (Pingxiang) Commodity Fair in Pingxiang, Chongzuo, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Dec 11.
Some of the highlights of this year's event included a fruit trade fair, a promotion meeting of the Chongzuo area of China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone, a commodity fair, and a large-scale theatrical performance.
He Liangjun, mayor of Chongzuo, spoke at the opening ceremony. He said that taking advantage of its location, transport links, and resources, Chongzuo city has vigorously developed cross-border trade, cross-border logistics, cross-border finance, cross-border tourism, and cross-border labor service cooperation in recent years. It is China's largest market for border trade, with total foreign trade import and export volumes ranking first in Guangxi for 10 consecutive years.
He stressed that the tourism festival and commodity fair has been held for 27 sessions so far, and it has become an important platform for Chongzuo to attract investment and promote international and regional cooperation with Vietnam and other ASEAN countries. Commodity trading, investment promotion and variety shows will be carried out this year to deepen the economic, trade and cultural ties between Chongzuo and ASEAN countries.
Liang Yiguang, deputy director of Guangxi commerce department, expressed his hope that Pingxiang would accelerate its economic opening-up based on its advantages such as location, policies, transportation and market to strive to become a hub of cross-border resource allocation, and an important node in the construction of the Belt and Road and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
