As the Guangxi Nanning-Chongzuo High-speed Railway began to build the erection of its first bridge in late September, the first high-speed railway independently invested and constructed by Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has entered the girder construction stage.

The Nanning-Chongzuo High-speed Railway has a total length of 119.75 kilometers and a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The line starts from the Nanning in the east and leads to Chongzuo South Station, passing through Nanning Wuxu International Airport. It has a total investment of 22.29 billion yuan ($3.12 billion), and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2021.

The long-term extension of the line will also extend to Pingxiang, a county-level city in Guangxi and an important border town adjoining Vietnam. The railway will be connected with Vietnams railways, serving as an important channel for the interconnection and intercommunication between Guangxi and neighboring countries.

A person in charge of the Guangxi Nanning-Chongzuo High-speed Railway Co said that this railway is an important transportation facility for the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Singapore Interconnection South Channel. After completion, the journey from Nanning to Chongzuo will be shortened from 2 hours to half an hour. The railway is of great significance to the economic and social development of Guangxi, as well as the entire Southwest China region.
