The GDP of Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has grown more than 600-fold over the past 70 years, and its fiscal revenue has increased from 7.81 million yuan ($1.1 million) in 1950 to 75.32 billion yuan in 2018.
According to a press conference on Nanning's social and economic development held on Sept 25 to mark the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, Guangxi has made many achievements over the past 70 years, such as developing a financial gateway to ASEAN, issuing measures to promote poverty alleviation, and optimizing its business environment.
Policies and plans on construction, finance, taxation, land, talent, etc., have been issued to support the construction of the China-ASEAN Financial City, an important part of Nanning's financial gateway. Since the beginning of this year, the financial city has introduced 26 financial institutions and enterprises, and signed cooperation agreements with three banks.
Nanning has been seeing results in poverty alleviation, and throughout this year, three impoverished counties, 91 impoverished villages, and 72,700 impoverished people are expected to be lifted out of poverty. The city is working to renovate unsafe housing, attract more teachers to poor areas, and improve the safety of rural drinking water.
The Nanning government is striving to promote one-stop services, and to date, a total of 656 administrative processes related to 43 government departments, public enterprises, and institutions can be handled at the Nanning Civil Center. In addition, 182 administrative licensing items involving 29 municipal departments can be handled by the Nanning examination and approval department.
The city also improved administrative efficiency by optimizing approval processes and promoting the digitalization of government processes. It now allows enterprises to register electronically, unemployment insurance to be applied for online via facial recognition, and real estate to be registered 24 hours a day.
