The 2019 China-ASEAN Drama Week opened in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region with a performance of Sichuan opera Chen Ai Luo Ding serving as the opening drama.

Sponsored by the Nanning municipal people's government and the Guangxi Culture and Tourism Department, the 2019 country of honor for the drama week was established to enhance the sense of participation and responsibility of ASEAN countries in the event, as well as to deepen friendship exchanges and cooperation. 

This year's country of honor is Indonesia, and Kurniawan Wibowo, consul for Information and Socio-culture Affairs of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Guangzhou, was invited to make a speech at the opening ceremony of the drama week. He noted that representatives of the Padang Panjang Art School of Indonesia will perform the opera MalinNanKondang, a story originating from a myth in West Sumatra.

During the drama week from Sept 12 to 18, a total of 19 outstanding art troupes from China, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries will stage 23 performances and take part in 26 events.
