Guangxi boosts smart transportation with 5G

Guangxi issued the first test license for intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) in Liuzhou on July 12 and established the first 5G smart transportation innovation laboratory to promote the integration of 5G technology with the transportation industry, as well as help the construction of smart transportation in Guangxi.

A forum discussing new ways of transportation was held in Liuzhou on July 12, attracting experts and scholars from all over the country to discuss the opportunities and great changes in the integration of electric vehicles, green travel, smart vehicles, and ICT technology.

Zheng Junkang, Party secretary of Liuzhou, issued the first ICV test license for SAIC General Wuling Motor Co. At present, the ICV Demonstration Zone in the SAIC-GM-Wuling Baojun Base has established the world's first public test roads with 5G, V2X, remote driving, and unmanned functions. It has also taken the lead in road tests.

In addition, the first 5G Smart Transportation Innovation Lab in Guangxi was established. The cooperation agreement of the Guangxi 5G Smart Transportation Joint Innovation Laboratory was signed by China Mobile's Guangxi branch, Guangxi Transportation Research & Consulting Co, SAIC-GM-Wuling, and China Mobile (Shanghai) Information and Communication Technology Co.

The establishment of the innovation lab will further conform to the needs of industrial development, promote the integration and innovation of the smart transportation industry, as well as continue to carry out research and development of new technologies, promoting the level of smart transportation construction in Guangxi.

Wu Wei, mayor of Liuzhou, said at the forum that the city will promote the deep integration of next-generation information technology, such as 5G, in the automobile and other manufacturing industries, as well as take the new advantages of Liuzhou's manufacturing industry to enhance economic innovation and core competitiveness.
