The 2019 China Microbiology Sci-tech Industry Hundred-PhD-Group Forum was held in Guigang, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on May 25 to push forward the systematic research and application of microbiological technology.

More than 40 academicians, 120 PhDs and 50 entrepreneurs attended the event, which was themed around "Microbiology economic era starts from here".

Chen Yuming, vice president of China Public Diplomacy Association, gave a rundown of global microbiological development, while Wang Deliang, director of the Traditional Fermentation Department of China National Research Institute of Food & Fermentation Industries, discussed the development and application of new food fermentation technology.

Fan Hailin, president of Guigang Oriental Legend Food Technology, talked about his original intentions in founding the Hundred-PhD-Group, its working progress and future plans in advancing microbiological technology. Wang Guocheng, a researcher at the Institute of Quantitative & Technical Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, explained how the Hundred-PhD-Group will contribute to the regional economy.

The PhD members of the group signed a recruitment contract later at the forum. Cooperation agreements related to microbiological technology, industrial environment treatment and microorganism fragmented food were also inked.

Keynote speeches were given by experts on a variety of topics including the application of microbiological preparations in the prevention and control of strawberry fungal diseases and microbiological medicament in the treatment of malignant tumors.

Chen Jang, head of the Hundred-PhD-Group, gave an account of their research project, which aims to solve key issues in the microbiological industrial chain, help the products access the market and increase enterprises' revenue.

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms and can be applied into the medicine, agriculture, energy, industry and environment protection sectors. However, the industry is still in its infancy in China and is not yet on par with its global peers, according to experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The forum, sponsored by the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Federation, China City News and Guigang municipal people's government, was aimed at narrowing the gap.
