Sparkler-grabbing is a traditional sport event popular among ethnic groups. Three to five cup-sized bamboo or rattan circles that are wrapped by red cloth with red and green threads are shot to the sky by cannon. Men and women of all ages wear traditional costumes and contend for the sparkler. People grasping the circles are not the final winners until they bring them to the designated spot. Those that make it are considered the luckiest and most favored by the girls in the coming year.
