A Henan native surnamed Wang received her Exit-Entry Permit for Traveling to and from Hong Kong and Macao and reissued passport in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on April 1.

This came as a result of the latest regulation by the National Immigration Administration to streamline exit-entry permit application procedures.

Chinese mainland citizens are now able to take the same documents and apply for passports and travel permits in any exit-entry management departments across the country rather than return to their birthplaces that issued their hukou (household registration).

This brings much convenience to a growing number of people that live, study or work in provinces and regions far from their hometown.

The national immigration authority estimated that more than 21 million exit-entry permits will be issued to applicants outside their birthplaces this year, saving them more than 20 billion yuan ($3 billion) in transportation fees.
