Guangxi campaign to end poverty via consumption stimulation

With an investment of 100 million yuan ($15 million), a "consumption is poverty alleviation" campaign has gotten off the ground in Guangxi to eliminate poverty by helping sell local agricultural and associated products on a dedicated marketing platform.

The initiative was launched by Guangxi Agricultural Development Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Guangxi Rural Investment Group, along with hundreds of agricultural enterprises, cooperatives, and distributors, including CR Vanguard, Guangzhou Auntie Qian and Shenzhen HiGreen.

Guangxi, endowed with an exceptional ecological environment, has no lack of high-quality products but needs more effective sales channels. A single enterprise alone can hardly change the situation, said Han Dongjie, the president of Guangxi Yicao Agricultural Trade Co Ltd.

The establishment of the marketing platform brings together farmers and distributors. Not only will it help sell products from impoverished areas, but it will also prove crucial to the cultivation of local brands. Customers, for their part, will be able to buy quality products at a lower price.

The campaign, which will last two years, has already produced notable results under the instruction of the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In just half a month, participants have clinched deals worth more than 10 million yuan.   

A rural rejuvenation association will also be established to deal with the financing, production and marketing of the agricultural products.
