A young ticket seller was praised by passengers in the waiting hall of Yongfu South Railway Station in Guilin for writing and distributing Spring Festival couplets on Jan 21, the first day of the Spring Festival travel rush.
The worker, named Jiang Rui, is a skilled calligrapher. She wanted to send her regards to the Spring Festival travelers.
A passenger surnamed Liu was pleased to receive the couplets and thought it was about time that such activities began springing up, as Spring Festival is quickly approaching. The handwritten gift gave him a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Writing couplets during Spring Festival is a traditional Chinese custom. The Chinese character "fu" written on red paper represents people's hopes and dreams for the new year.
The couplet-giving activity will become an annual tradition and is meant to wish good luck to travelers.
