The 1st China Citrus Industry High-quality Development Summit was held in Guilin's Yongfu county on Jan 12 and 13, along with a citrus matchmaking meeting.

Nearly 100 exhibitors engaged in citrus production, agricultural products, food-processing, and agricultural technology and equipment attended the exhibition & trade fairs to showcase their products, technology, services and achievements.

A number of scholars and experts shared the latest industrial achievements during the summit on Jan 12. Deng Ziniu, chairman of the China Citrus Society, introduced new post-harvest commercialized processing technology, while Deng Chongling, president of the Guangxi Academy of Special Crops, explained the current status of Guangxi's citrus industry.

Other attendees also gave lectures on modern organic agricultural theory and technology, the marketing of citrus brands and fruit traceability systems. Discussions were held on how to cultivate citrus brands and eliminate poverty through resource integration.

A matchmaking banquet that same evening brought merchants and distributors from wholesale markets in Beijing, Jiaxing and Shenyang together with local citrus cooperatives and farmers for business negotiations.

To further acquaint buyers with Yongfu's citrus industry, the guests were invited to visit local plantations and commercialized processing centers on Jan 13.

The county, located north of the Tropic of Cancer, is blessed with a mild climate, ample sunshine and abundant rainfall. Seventy-eight percent of its soil is rich in selenium (Se), making it the Home of Se-enriched Citrus.

Yongfu has seen rapid development in its citrus industry in recent years. It now has 397,000 mu (26,467 hectares) of citrus plantations throughout the county, and was listed among China's Top 30 Counties with the Best Citrus Industries in 2018.
