With a slogan of "100 years under one sky", science popularization activities celebrating the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) kicked off in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Jan 12.

An exhibition showcasing the evolution of astronomical telescopes and astronomical observation activities held during the launch ceremony at the Guangxi Science and Technology Museum attracted great public interest.

Meanwhile, the China Science and Technology Museum's ongoing ancient sci-tech exhibition in Guangxi also includes a large number of pictures and replicas of ancient astronomical inventions, including astronomical observatories and instruments that can measure the position of celestial bodies or demonstrate celestial movements.

Founded in 1999, the IAU is an international association committed to promoting and safeguarding the science of astronomy through international cooperation.

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the IAU is preparing for a year filled with events, with more than 1,000 activities to be held throughout 95 countries and regions.

The global celebration is meant to celebrate astronomical breakthroughs from the last century that have shaped science, technology and culture, while also highlighting the importance of astronomy as a tool for education, development and diplomacy.
