Thirty percent of building materials used in the construction of Guangxi civic buildings will be eco-friendly by the end of 2020, according to the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Green construction is seen as an important step toward energy efficiency amid efforts to fight pollution. Guangxi began the green building material drive in 2016 to spur the transformation of the construction industry.

Local housing and urban-rural development authorities joined hands with informatization authorities to establish a Guangxi Green Building Material Label Expert Committee and release a technical guide on the assessment of green building materials.

Three third-party assessment organizations were also made responsible for label applications and assessments, formation of standards, policy study and promotion of green building materials.

Meanwhile, study groups were sent to Hubei, Henan and Xinjiang to learn from their experiences and techniques.

The Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development will strengthen supervision of the assessment institutions and certified enterprises while also promoting green construction in the region.
