Guangxi will raise the minimum living allowance for orphans on Jan 1, according to the Department of Civil Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The monthly allowance will rise from 600 yuan ($87) to 800 yuan per orphan, while the allowance for orphans cared for by welfare institutions will be raised from 1,000 yuan to 1,200 yuan.
Different areas in the region are permitted to adjust the amount based on the local socioeconomic situation, but it should be no less than the provincial minimum.
Local financial authorities are urged to strengthen supervision of the fund, with civil affairs authorities reporting the regional standard and status of the fund every February.
