The Guangxi Children's Hospital, the first provincial-level children's hospital in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, opened to the public in Nanning on Dec 23.

With a floor area of about 76,012 square meters, the facility is equipped with 500 beds, pediatric intensive care units (PICU), neonatal intensive care units (NICU), and surgical intensive care units (SICU).

The hospital will focus on the prevention of birth defects and the treatment of serious diseases that fall into 18 categories related to children's gastroenterology, neurology, rehabilitation, and more.

The establishment of the hospital is essential to the development of children's healthcare in Guangxi and is expected to advance the treatment of infectious diseases like thalassemia, according to Liao Pinhu, director of the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
