The total length of railway in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region will reach 5,500 kilometers by 2020, of which 2,000 kilometers are high-speed, according to the 13th Five-Year Plan for Guangxi Railway Construction (revised edition) released on Dec 13.

According to the plan, a "Five Horizontal & Five Vertical" railway network is expected to take shape in the region, with all cities to be accessible by high-speed rail. The proposed Nanning-centered high-speed railway circle will allow locals to reach neighboring cities from Nanning within one hour, remote cities in the region within two hours and capitals of neighboring provinces within 10 hours.

Of particular note is the Liuzhou-Guilin-Hezhou-Guangzhou Railway, which can support speeds of up to 350 kilometers and will cut travel time between Liuzhou and Guangzhou to less than two hours.

In addition, the Hechi-Liuzhou-Hezhou-Shaoguan Railway will connect Liuzhou and Shaoguan via a direct train for the first time.
