With rich bauxite resources, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has actively promoted the development and expansion of the aluminum industry and has become an important aluminum industry base in China since its establishment 60 years ago.

In 2017, the output of alumina, electrolytic aluminum, and aluminum accounted for 15.2 percent, 3.7 percent and 6.7 percent of the national total respectively, ranking fourth, eighth and fifth in the country.

The aluminum plant in Pingguo county, Guangxi, a national key construction project with a total investment of more than 4 billion yuan ($575.54 million), started construction in May 1991, and became one of the country's non-ferrous metal projects with the largest investment, the largest scale and the highest technical level in China at that time.

After years of development, Guangxi has formed a relatively complete aluminum industrial chain, but at the same time it faces the problem of insufficient deep processing capabilities for electrolytic aluminum.

In recent years, Guangxi has launched a series of plans for the aluminum industry. On one hand, relying on the reform of the power system, it has actively promoted the construction of a number of coal, electricity and aluminum integration projects, which has greatly reduced the production costs of aluminum enterprises, and on the other hand, through research, development and supply-side structural reform, significant breakthroughs have been made in the deep processing of aluminum.

According to the data provided by the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangxi, the main business income of Guangxi aluminum industry reached 115 billion yuan in 2017.

The output of alumina was 10.46 million metric tons, the electrolytic aluminum was 1.21 million tons, and the aluminum material was 3.88 million tons.

Baise city has vigorously promoted the coal, electricity and aluminum integration project, and the output value of aluminum and supporting industries exceeded 100 billion yuan for the first time.

Guangxi will build an aluminum deep processing industrial cluster to promote the development of the industry, growing its scale, depth and chain according to the "Guangxi Industrial High-Quality Development Action Plan (2018-2020)" issued this year.

Guangxi will accelerate the construction of Baise and Fangchenggang ecological aluminum bases, Liuzhou, Laibin and Hezhou aluminum deep processing bases, and Nanning high-end aluminum research and development innovation, aluminum processing and aluminum processing equipment base, to create a national ecological aluminum industry.

By 2020, the total output value of aluminum industry will be 200 billion yuan.
