High-speed railway in Guangxi progresses rapidly
Railway infrastructure has been increasingly perfected since the establishment of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region 60 years ago.
The mileage of railway operations in the region has increased from 1,358 kilometers in 1958 to 5,191 kilometers in October 2018, of which the high-speed railway operation mileage is 1,771 kilometers, among the front-runners in the country.
Guangxi's railway initially progressed slowly, with poor equipment, a low technical level and low operating mileages. The national railway was developing six times faster than previously, but Guangxi remained rather unaffected by these changes.
With a series of strategic opportunities, such as the development of western China and the cooperation between China and ASEAN, Guangxi has sped up railway construction.
The Hengyang-Liuzhou railway was opened for operation on Dec 28, 2013, Guangxi's first high-speed railway operation that made Guangxi the first ethnic group autonomous region in China to operate a high-speed rail.
Nanning-Qinzhou high-speed railway, Qinzhou-Beihai high-speed railway and Qinzhou-Fangchenggang high-speed railway opened for operation on Dec 30, 2013.
The Guangxi section of Nanning-Guangzhou railway opened for operation on April 18, 2014, allowing southeastern Guangxi to enter the high-speed rail era.
On Dec 26, 2014, the launch of the Guiyang-Guangzhou high-speed railway, which crossed Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong, as well as the opening of Nanning East Railway Station, the largest and most modern station in Guangxi, further opened up the region. These new routes made travel between Guangxi and the Pearl River Delta, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao easier than ever.
The Nanning-Baise section of the Yunnan-Guangzhou railway was opened for operation on Dec 11, 2015, marking Baise's entry into the high-speed rail era.
The Yunnan-Guangzhou railway was fully opened for operation on Dec 28, 2016. The latest development marked Guangxi's achievement in connecting fully to its surrounding provinces by high-speeded rail.
There are currently seven high-speed railway lines in Guangxi. Twelve of the 14 prefecture-level cities in Guangxi have opened bullet trains directly connecting to 18 provinces, municipalities and special administrative regions.
Since 2016, Guangxi has also taken the lead in creating a "high-speed rail trackless station" model, extending high-speed rail services through initiatives such as opening stations and improving public railway connections, and one-stop integrated logistics and tourism services to optimize traffic in poor areas.
At present, 11 high-speed rail trackless stations have been built and networked.
Through this rapid development, Guangxi high-speed railway has built a modern and fast transportation network with an optimized layout, clear structure, perfect functions, smooth connection and low carbon emissions.
