Guilin has attracted more than 160 State leaders and senior officials over the past 40 years as a guest room of China, and it is also a tourist destination that the UN World Tourism Organization recommends to tourists worldwide. It is predicted that tourists from home and abroad will pay more than 90 million trips to Guilin this year.

Building Guilin into an international tourist resort was upgraded to a national strategy in 2012. The city became a national demonstration zone for sustainable agenda innovation in March this year. Guilin boasts four world-class heritages: karst landscape (world natural heritage), Danxia landform of Ziyuan county (world natural heritage), Lingqu Canal of Xing'an county (world irrigation project heritage), and Longji Terrace of Longsheng county (world agricultural cultural heritage).

The harmonious co-existence of people and nature, city and landscape, history and culture in Guilin constitutes the unique charm of the city.

Tectonic movements over billions of years have shaped the unique karst landforms of Guilin. The peerless-regarded mountains and waters surrounding Guilin made the World Heritage List in 2014.
