As one of the top celebration activities of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Guangxi and the 15th anniversary of Chongzuo, the seven-day games was organized by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region People's Government in cooperation with Chongzuo government.

Dating back to 1982, the ethnic sports games have strongly promoted the development of sports in Guangxi and boosted the unity of all ethnic groups. Chongzuo is a prefecture-level city with the highest population of Zhuang people in the country. Located on China's southern border, the city has been recognized as the City of Sugar, the City of Manganese and the Home of Rosewood. It is also considered an ecological city.

This year's games contain 15 athletic events and three different kinds of demonstration events, including those with national characteristics such as dragon boat racing and gasing (spinning top). The games is expected to be a good way to inherit and develop ethnic sports in Guangxi.
