On Sept 24, a moon worship ceremony for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival was held in Nanning.

The ceremony, hosted by Nanning Municipal Bureau of Culture, Press, Publication, Radio, Film & TV and Nanning Spiritual Civilization Office, is a Mid-Autumn Festival feast that brings together the traditional features of Nanning.

By combining the ancient custom of worshiping the moon with other cultural customs, the ceremony focused on inheritances and sense of rituals, which attracted approximately 200 participants.

The Confucius Temple opened at 8 o'clock that night to welcome guests. One hundred young girls and 50 parent-child families dressed in hanfu (a form of traditional Chinese clothing dating back thousands of years) formed a ceremonial team. With grapefruit, apple, citrus, grapes and other fruits, as well as  laurel branches served to the worship table, the ceremony officially began.

Activities followed the ceremony include the distribution of the moon cake and "burning the Fanta" (a kind of firewood tower), which is a custom of praying for good fortune, family reunion and harvest. The custom began in Foshan, Zhaoqing and other places in Guangdong and was gradually introduced to Guangxi.
