The first biomass power plant in Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has been connected to the grid and started generating electricity on Aug 2.

The project started construction in July 2017, and now covers an area of 115 mu (7.67 hectares) with a total investment of 200 million yuan ($29 million). The power plant generates electricity by burning agricultural and forest residues, which will consume over 300,000 metric tons of biomass fuel annually.

Located at the Huanjiang Industrial Park, the project is financed by Hunan-based Reang Eco-Energy Co. At present it is undergoing trial production, and is expected to go into full production in September with an annual capacity of 160 million to 180 million kilowatt-hours, bringing in about 120 million yuan of economic benefit every year and creating over 200 jobs for local farmers.

Additionally, the supporting facilities of the project can offer forest products and cocoon silk processing enterprises 400,000 metric tons of steam energy and sufficient power supply each year, which will be an economic benefit and boost green ecological construction.
