Vietnam saw a tourism surge during China's combined National Day and Mid-Autumn holiday, with Guangxi serving as a key gateway for cross-border travel, data shows.
The trend aligns with Vietnam's rising appeal as a top Southeast Asian destination for Chinese tourists.
Guangxi land ports such as Youyiguan have become popular departure points. Vietnamese coach operator Ruan Xing noted a sharp jump in pre-holiday bookings, with tourists heading to Hanoi and Ha Long Bay by shared or private cars after crossing the border.
Transport links have fueled the boom. Since May, the resummed China-Vietnam international passenger train has carried over 10,000 travelers by early October.
Direct trains to Dongxing also boosted visits to border scenic spots, where Vietnamese cuisine gained popularity.
Chinese tourists favor Vietnam for its accessibility and value. A visitor from Guangzhou highlighted the short drive from Guangxi to Hanoi and enjoyment of local experiences like "city walks" and street food, citing cultural affinity and affordability.
The growth reflects deepened China-Vietnam tourism cooperation, part of the 2025 "China-Vietnam People-to-People Exchange Year". Such cross-border trips not only enrich travel options but also strengthen cultural and economic ties via Guangxi.
